Loving the Addict: A true story Book Review

I recently had the opportunity to review the book Loving the Addict by Raven Storm. I was at a loss for words. The story started as a journal for self therapy to cope with what had happened to the author in real life. She decided to write the book to let other women who are being abused know that they are not alone. Once I started reading it, I couldn't stop for a day or two. I finally had to take a breather but it wasn't easy. I would lay in bed only imagining what happened next, and even got up a time or two to read just one more chapter.

The story of Brenda and Jake is definitely an on the edge of your seat roller coaster of emotions. Too many times I would yell at my computer screen while reading it, saying oh thank goodness he's gone, and then he was back again. Too many times I also thought why don't she leave, but I was reminded of how much easier it is said than done. Domestic Violence is a tricky thing to say the least. You want to go but you want to stay, you love the abuser but you hate them as well. It's a no win situation for sure. Brenda was a fighter. She loved Jake and she wanted to believe that things would get better even though she knew the liar and manipulator he really was. I've been there and I can relate. You want to help them. You keep on because you think you can make them better, but before you know it, it's out of your hands and there is nothing you can do about it.

No-one should ever have to endure what Brenda did. It's heart breaking to say the least. This book, I highly recommend! Whether you are a victim at this very moment or a survivor, this is a must read. Please know that you are not alone, but more importantly, know that there is help. There is always a way out. If you are a victim, the first chance you get run, and never look back. Items can be replaced. Your life is much more important. No matter what they say, it will never get better. They will beg and plead with you and tell you how things will change, but trust me when I tell you, things rarely change.

The Author Raven Storm is a very courageous woman. She endured a lot. Luckily she lived to tell about it. Many women don't. She is now an advocate for Domestic Violence Victims and Survivors. Please be sure to check out this bit of Important Information. If someone you know is being abused, I can't beg you enough to help them get out. Do whatever you have to do, but please get them out of there. Just letting them know you are there if they need a safe place to stay can make all of the difference in the world.

There are many Resources available. Please don't become the next victim.

Be sure to check out the Blog and "Like" her on Facebook for the most up to date information.

  1. Abuse and domestic violence are two issues this book addresses. It's hard for the "victim" to seek help because self esteem tends to be low plus generally they're isolated. This appears to be a gripping story.

Kalorik Steam Mop Review and Giveaway Ends 1-26-13

I recently had the pleasure of working with  Kalorik  and do a review of their  Kalorik Steam Mop . This couldn't have came at a better time. I'm in the "New Year, New You" mode right now and there are lots of things I want to change. Harsh Chemical use is one of those things. The Kalorik Steam Mop works off of ordinary tap water! No detergents, soaps or chemicals needed! You can use the Kalorik Steam Mop to clean linoleum, ceramic tile, stone, marble, carpet, sealed hardwood, parquet and more! It's also very light weight and easy to use! I spoke with Kalorik via email on a Wednesday morning, and less than 48 hours my product arrived via FedEx! Two Thumbs Up! Upon arrival, it took all of 10 minutes to have it open, put together, and ready to use. It came with 2 small screws to attach the base to the actual cleaner, throw a microfiber pad on the base and we were ready to steam! I have hardwood flooring in my entire house so floor care is not something t...

Mabel's Labels Review

Signs of April receives free products for review purposes and may sometimes be compensated for posts. Posts may also contain affiliate (marketing) links. Thank you to  Mabel's Labels  for sending out their Name Label Gift Pack for us to review.  Labeling is pretty important this day in time. Especially when you have children in school.  Being organized and having everything labeled is very important in our home and even more important for her school items.  We were able to customize our labels, as you will as well. Emma, aka The Baby Child, LOVES any and everything Unicorn so that's what we went with.  Things are often very easily picked up and never returned because something wasn't labeled with a name. She's also very notorious for leaving things at school or on the bus, so these labels will be a game changer!  The Name Label Gift Pack comes with 25 labels which is more than enough to label her school items.  We labeled her lunchbox, ben...

Never Go Down Without A Fight: One Mom's Struggle to Fight CPS

Many people don't know a whole lot about my personal life. I normally keep things quiet and just post my reviews and go on about my day. I started this blog to do coupon match ups but quickly found that I liked doing reviews and hosting the amazing giveaways. It pretty much keeps my mind occupied from the struggles I face and have faced daily the past 4 years.  Four years ago (next month) I lost custody of my then 8 year old daughter. She had gone to her Dad's for a 2 week summer visit in July of 09. I let her go a few days early simply because we weren't doing anything big here at home, however I told them that she would probably be needing a visit to the the Dr by the next morning because she had just gotten into some poison ivy and it would probably be spread by the next morning, but if they were willing to take her, then she could come early. The two weeks came and went and I didn't hear much from anyone. They had taken a trip to Panama City Beach so I didn...
